An interview with Elite Realty Group's founder on the discipline behind a growing real estate practice.
This interview was originally conducted by Dean Burgess of Excitepreneur.
Philip Scarborough got into real estate because he enjoys working with people from every walk of life. He launched his business during the market downturn — a time when many agents were exiting the industry — and identified a gap serving lawyers, builders, bankers, and investors who needed an agent who could operate at their pace.
"I am helping people live better lives," he says. That framing — that the job is about life outcomes, not transactions — continues to shape how Elite Realty Group hires and coaches.
Scarborough describes Jacksonville as "the largest city in the state," full of distinct, appealing neighborhoods. Marketing a region is much easier when you genuinely love it, and that authenticity reads through in every listing Elite Realty Group represents.
The moments he points to involve helping agents on his team fulfill a client's dream — not the individual deal, but what it took to get there. He credits the character and integrity of his team with Elite Realty Group's track record of turning difficult situations into positive outcomes.
Asked about the single biggest obstacle agents face, Scarborough introduces an acronym his team lives by:
F.O.C.U.S. — Follow One Course Until Success.
The point: agents have to avoid distractions and stay committed to the activities that produce results. He recommends building a structured plan with clear roles, goals, and measurable metrics, and reviewing them weekly or bi-weekly. It's advice that translates well beyond real estate — it applies to any business owner trying to build momentum.
